How the Gold Price Is Set
The gold price quoted worldwide is the spot price: the price for immediate delivery of one troy ounce (31.1035 grams) of pure gold, quoted in US dollars. It moves continuously while markets are open, driven by trading in London, New York and Asia. Local prices in pounds, euros, dirhams or baht are the dollar spot price converted at the current exchange rate.
Spot is a wholesale benchmark. What you pay for a bar, or receive for raw gold, is spot adjusted for fineness, form, quantity, refining and delivery costs. That is why every quote we issue starts from spot — see how our gold bars are priced.
What Is the Raw Gold Price?
Raw gold — natural nuggets and alluvial gold dust — is rarely pure. Its value is based on the pure gold it contains, so the raw gold price is the spot price multiplied by the gold’s fineness and weight. A 22-karat nugget is roughly 91.7% gold; 99.9% dust is almost pure.
Raw gold usually trades below the melt value calculated above, because the buyer must pay for assaying and refining, and bears the risk that the true fineness differs from the estimate. Independent assay certificates reduce that risk, which is why every raw gold nugget and gold dust lot we sell comes with one.

What is the gold price today?+
The table on this page shows the gold spot price per troy ounce and per gram in USD, GBP, EUR, CAD, AED, QAR, THB and KES, with the time it was last updated. Spot changes throughout the trading day, so a firm price is fixed when you request a quote.
How is the raw gold price calculated?+
Multiply the weight in grams by the fineness (karat ÷ 24) and by the spot price per gram. That gives the melt value; raw gold typically sells at a discount to it to cover assaying, refining and fineness risk. The calculator on this page does the arithmetic for you.
Why is the price of a gold bar higher than spot?+
Bars carry a premium over spot for refining, fabrication, assay certification, insurance and delivery. Premiums are usually lower per gram on larger bars. Our gold bullion bars are quoted as spot plus a premium that we state up front.
What is the price of 1 gram of gold?+
